The Bachelor is what many of us can consider our guilty pleasure show. It can easily be described as a trainwreck waiting to happen that you just can’t help but to continue watching. Season 21 of The Bachelor just premiered with the Bachelor being Nick Viall. Now Nick is easily one of the most controversial choices for The Bachelor. Why? He has now been on, counting this season, 4 seasons in The Bachelor world. This first episode is usually the goofiest episode in the season, it is also where we meet the women that are interested in pursuing a relationship with Nick. I love and believe in the Lord and my faith drives me so I will not be making any first impressions of the women themselves but rather giving you all 5 things to keep in mind while you continue to watch The Bachelor.
1.There is never just one side to one person.
In this show, they polarize a lot of the contestants that go into this show. For example last night we saw two vastly different personalities we saw the dolphin enthusiast and a neonatal nurse. One they show as a loveable girl and the other they portray as a crazy girl who is just there for laughter. Many Bachelor watchers were shocked and annoyed that Nick chose to give a rose to the dolphin enthusiast dressed in what I pretty much think is a shark costume. I actually really love this choice because I think she is not crazy but rather a goofy lovable person who just wanted to take away from the drama of the evening.
2.Every show needs both a villain and a protagonist.
Corinne is already being held as a villain and while I do NOT agree with things she has said and things that Bachelor producers are alluding as to have happened. I do know that there is more to this person that what they are showing. Last season on The Bachelor they had Olivia Caridi as the ultimate villain of that season. I did not agree with that she was a villain, sure she did have a few comments that I did not agree with but ultimately I related to her like no other. Plus the producers will vilify someone because ratings are higher on an episode that features the villain.
3.With this being a TV Show there will be an edit and we will not see the whole story.
Seriously speaking this is a TV show and producers are interested in receiving higher audience members week after week. Otherwise, the show would have been canceled a long time ago and it wouldn’t have the longevity that it currently has. Therefore in the timeframe that they have they want to show the story that will give them the highest number of audience members. If we, in fact, can predict the winner from the first episode then there is no point in watching the rest of the season.
4. While the show is edited, there are still emotions from real people portrayed.
As previously mentioned there is a time restrict involved and while the Bachelor is supposed to be 2 hours long, with commercials included the Bachelor might be 50 minutes of footage from the actual show itself. For example, if you all noticed this premiere episode started let’s say at 7 pm due to it being so dark outside during the limo entrances and by the time that the last woman without a rose excited the mansion you noticed that it was sunrise probably around 7 am. This means that everybody has been up and could be drinking for approximately 12 hours. Therefore some emotions will be amped up but that does not take away that thy are in fact real emotions. One of my favorite Bachelor contestants is Ashley Iaconetti. Ashley I, as she is known in the Bachelor world, is always criticized for being the virgin who is always crying over someone who she is obsessed with. When in this insane situation that Ashley I is in it is perfectly normal and okay for her to express her emotions with tears.
5. This is somebody’s story so be respectful of all parts of their story.
Just like with Ashley, Olivia and Nick keep in mind that this a part of someone who is a real person. These are everyday people who decided to sign up for a television show. And while they are exposed to an audience of over 1 million they do have a right to privacy. Imagine if some of your lowest moment were televised for everyone to see and to be immortalized forever. So keep that in mind before you bully any of these contestants.
Lots of love,
